Unique Blue Diamond Ring Will Sell Privately After Shown To The World By Bonham’s

On June 1st, Bonham’s has shown three unique Fancy Color Diamonds at its Hong Kong auction. Little did we know how much of an impact this will make after the auction.

The Fancy Intense Green Diamond, weighing 1.24 carats with an SI1 clarity was valued at $120k to $170k in total, and ended up selling near the lower end of the valuation at $130k total or almost $105k per carat, making this an excellent acquisition price for the buyer.

The 3.05 carat, Fancy Pink with a VS2 clarity did not sell. it was valued at $1million to $1.3 million. Most likely this diamond will sell privately after having been seen by so many both during the auction, and well after, when it was exposed to the world via Bonham’s website.

The unique Fancy Intense Blue Diamond ring also went unsold. It was an oval shape, with a VS2 clarity. It was valued at $2.2 million to $2.6 million. What is so special about this Fancy Intense Blue Diamond is the fact that we know where the rough came from. It has The Provenance Report.

It is important for an investor as much as it is to a collector to know where the origin of the diamond is from. The whole process of polishing it took six months from planning to polishing to setting it in that perfect ring. Based on current Fancy Intense and Fancy Vivid Blue diamonds prices in the market, we are certain the ring will sell to a private collector or investor quite fast.

The last major auction of the first half of the year will be on June 9th in New York by Christie’s. It will auction off the now famous “Cullinan Dream” diamond. A 24.18 carat, fancy Intense Blue, the largest ever to be offered at auction. It is valued at $23 million to $29 million.

After that auction, the summer months tend to be quiet for the full industry, when the majority of companies are going into vacation mode. We will pick up again on auctions in the fall.

During the summer time, we will cover more education material such as the elements hidden within Fancy Color Diamonds, and how to evaluate them from a financial perspective. We will also cover a few examples of Diamond Investment Portfolios.
