Bonham’s Hong Kong Auction Delivers On Its Promise!

Following up to our last article about Bonham’s auction, The 3.81 carat, Oval, Fancy Intense Blue diamond has sold well above its estimates.

The rare diamond, was estimated to sell between $1.7 million and $2.4 million, and ended up selling for $3,019,234.50 in total, to be exact. That makes it valued at $792,450 per carat, not a world record but, at over 25% premium to its high estimates, we consider this a success.

This sale, in a way, is a redemption of the Auction house failure back on June 1, in selling the 3.04 carat, Oval shape, Fancy Intense Blue and a VS2 clarity. That diamond was valued at $724k to $855k per carat.

having 2, 3+ carat Fancy Intense Blue diamonds, with the same shape very close clarity, demonstrates how both color depth, and market condition (just back from long summer holidays), can mean a successful sale or not.

To continue its successful sale in Hong Kong, Bonham’s has sold the pair of Exceptional pair of Kashmir Sapphires that were estimated at between $520k to $780k , for $1,125,910 to be exact or over 44% above its high estimates.

I am sure that Bonham’s continues and will continue to give valuable services to both its seller and buyer clients. They give very personalised service that much larger entities cannot give. Think of it like DeBeers when they sold a mine that was no longer financially viable to their structure, and it got picked up by a smaller, more leaner operator, that ends up digging more rare and unique blue diamonds…
